Kanye’s New Line Gets Mixed Reviews
I’m a huge Kanye West fan. Let’s get that out of the way. I love his music; I love his swag; and I love his style. So naturally I’ve been waiting a long time to see what a clothing line from the Louis Vuitton Don would look like. He’s been talking about the line for years, and the rapper finally debuted his Dw Womenswear line during Paris Fashion Week.
The runway show drew interest from a wide range of spectators: Lindsay Lohan, Ciara, the Olsen Twins, Anna Wintour from Vogue and many more were on-hand to see what Kanye’s been working on. The show received a largely mixed response. While some called the line “confusing” and “poor-fitting” others recognized Kanye’s new to the game and said the show was “neither triumph nor a train wreck” and that “it had the earnest veneer of a beginner, which was sort of endearing.”
I wasn’t there, but I’ve seen the pictures. I just don’t think I’m the audience for these runway shows. I love the Sean John line, but I would never wear any of the stuff that I see in those shows. I kind of felt the same way about this. I mean, who’s gonna wear these…

Snoop Dogg Closes Down Clothing Line
Formed in 2008, Snoop Dogg has decided to close down his Rich and Infamous clothing line effective immediately.
I’m a little ashamed to say this, but I wasn’t even aware Snoop had launched a new line. He had moderate success in the late 1990s with his Snoop Dogg Clothing Co., but it seems the label, which saw its launch at the 2008 MAGIC Fashion show, at the hight of our country’s recession, hasn’t done nearly as well and will be forced to close its doors.
“The recession is affecting everybody,” he told Hollywood Scoop in a recent interview. “We’re trying to keep it one hundred percent and do what we’re doing and keep the prices a little lower.”
Low prices weren’t enough, however. Chalk this one up to bad timing, I suppose.
Who Are The New Faces of Rocawear?
Rocawear will be launching a new ad campaign in the coming months that will feature a few new faces. It’s a great idea for the longevity of the brand as Jay-Z can’t be the lines most visible spokesman forever (despite all evidence to the contrary).
Though they haven’t announced who will be appearing in the new ads they are offering a few hints over at the Roc4Life website…
I guess the question from here is pretty obvious: Who exactly are we looking at?
Jay-Z Launches Roc Nation Aviator Headphones
Dr. Dre and Diddy each have their Beats headphones, and now Jay-Z is getting into the game with his own line of Roc Nation Aviator Headphones available through Skullcandy.
The Roc Nation headphones will feature a decidedly different design than the previous entries in the space. Available in white, black or brown, the headphones will be made of aluminum, stainless steel and polycarbonate and will offer a foldable design.
The headphones are currently available for pre-sale at a reduced price of $149.99 and will begin shipping to customers on July 17. For more information visit Skullcandy.
LINK: A Sit Down With Lacoste
Lacoste has always been one of my favorite lines. While a lot of urban labels are trying to portray themselves as aspirational brands — Lacoste actually is. The Lacoste alligator is a logo that actually means something. It’s always been a brand worn by the elite.
Around since the early 1960s, Lacoste has been a staple in the fashion community with its pique polo shirts worn by the likes of Common, Jay-Z and Kanye West — however, the sports brand rarely gets the attention others get because it isn’t backed by a high-profile celebrity like Sean John or Rocawear. However, SoJones recently posted a great interview with some of the execs behind the clothing line and it is well worth a look…
Lacoste is known as a worldclass sports brand. Is it still sport-driven now?
Lynette Briones: Lacoste has a heritage in the world of sport and that is something we very much try to keep a part of our DNA as a brand. We use that angle and keep it fresh each season by putting a twist on heritage. For instance, the idea around our Steel Racquet pack of footwear is based around the steel racquet Rene Lacoste invented in the 1960’s.
LINK: Akademiks Fall 2010 Photo Shoot
Sometimes a strong clothing label like Akademiks can get lost in the sea of celebrity-backed lines. Akademiks, however, continues to put out one great collection after another and Dr. Jay’s recently featured a behind-the-scenes look at a photo shoot for the label’s fall line.
The shoot involved DJ Suss One, DJ Self and Nic Harris of the Buffalo Bills. Definitely worth a look if you want to get a heads up on what Akademiks will be offering in the next few months.
Sean John Presents SHOP FUTURE LOS ANGELES
On June 4th Sean John will open its second “pop-up” store… this time in Los Angeles.
Say what you will about Diddy but the man is constantly taking his game in a new direction, and this one has me very impressed. While most would simply open a few boutique stores in major cities, Diddy understands he can create a much larger buzz by coming in for a few weeks, selling his wares, and getting out.
Think about it. When a good concert comes through town it’s all anyone is talking about, right? On your radio station, TV station, newspaper… everywhere. It’s an event. These pop-up stores aren’t any different. Check it out…

Enyce Is Baaaaack!
So I’ve been a long time fan of the Enyce brand and a huge fan of Sean John since it initially hit the scene back in 1999 so obviously I got a little excited when Diddy bought the Enyce clothing company last year.
As expected, the brand disappeared for a season (or two) as Diddy reorganized the company and brought his team on-board. Since then, though, with their new spring line, I’m proud to say that Enyce is back and in full effect.
They’ve started small (Dr. Jay’s only has about a hundred items in stock through their site), but I’m telling you, if these first line is any indication, Enyce is going to be back to stay.
Here are a few of my favorites. But like I said, there’s not a lot of Enyce stock right now, so get them while you can…
