Ecko Unltd. is a popular urban clothing company started by Marc Milecofsky in New Jersey. The company has become a leading brand in urban wear, and has many different clothing lines that appeal to different demographics. It has been worn by many celebrities, especially those in the Hip hop industry, and is popular among urban youth as well. The company started as a simple operation in his garage by a young Marc Milecofsky, otherwise known as Marc Ecko. Marc Ecko originally started out as a young fervent artist who took a shine to graffiti and drawing. He operated a small business out of his garage-turned-studio, in which he would spray paint designs on to t-shirts and even airbrush girls’ fingernails. He also customized hip-hop clothing and customized his own shirts, which he also sold. He finished high school and went on to the Rutgers University School of Pharmacy, but was encouraged by his school’s dean to pursue his dream.

He dropped out of the university to do just that. In 1993, he started the Ecko clothing company with investments from his twin sister and friend. He moved to Manhattan to start his small clothing company. He designed each shirt one by one, and even had them screen printed individually. He made enough to sell to stores. Ecko had to go to the stores and convince them to put his work on to their shelves. After some convincing, he managed to do so, and thus began the evolution of the Ecko clothing company. He even traveled to Hong Kong to see how the clothing industry works earlier on in his career. He had celebrity clients earlier on in his career, including movie director Spike Lee and famed rapper Chuck D. He also did a segment on Good Morning America in which he showcased his t-shirt designs.

Since its humble beginnings, the Ecko clothing company has grown into a billion dollar business with many subdivisions that cater to different audiences. This includes a line targeted towards women, Ecko Red, a line geared towards skaters, Zoo York, and a more professional line called Ecko Cut and Sew. Ecko has also collaborated with rapper 50 cent for a clothing line to reach the urban hip hop demographic as well. Ecko has done more outside of clothing; he has done many philanthropic endeavors as well. He has done a lot of charitable work, including support for the endangered rhino population and has helped build orphanages in poorer countries. He has also done work with students as well.

Now, the Ecko clothing company is one of the leading clothing companies in urban wear. Not only does it have a big fanbase amongst celebrities, but the younger crowd has taken a shine to the clothing as well. It has continued to grow as a company, and Ecko has continued to release edgy, groundbreaking clothing designs that appeal to a large audience. It will definitely be one of the mainstays in the world of urban design.
