If Russell Simmons is the Godfather of Hip Hop, then Don Ed Hardy is the Godfather of the Modern Tattoo. His work as a tattoo artist often combined multiple cultures and styles, bringing together American, Japanese and surf iconography and images to create his own style that has become something of a legend in the tattoo world.

In early 2004, Ed Hardy began a partnership with clothing designer Christian Audigier that would prove to be hugely successful as the two brought Hardy’s signature style to the masses in the form of high end t-shirts, jeans and other apparel.

The Ed Hardy brand has become a favorite with celebrities which only helped to launch the company from a niche market and into a mainstream, global brand.
