Big Tigger Joins Blac Label
Big Tigger is something of an inspiration. Not only is he the poster child for what it means to be a work-horse and entrepreneur, but he does tremendous philanthropic work as well.
Well, now the DJ/TV host will be taking on a new job title, that of fashion executive, as he has just been named the Senior Vice President of Marketing for the urban clothing brand, Blac Label.
There’s a great interview with Tigger over at Dr. Jay’s (click here) that explains how this deal came about. Personally, I’m hoping it works out well for everyone involved as Tigger is one of my favorite people in hip hop and Blac Label deserves all the success they can get.

AKOO Billboard Removed After Controversy
This is the kind of thing that really bothers me…
Recently there was a minor uproar when T.I.’s Akoo clothing line placed a billboard in the Newark area.

Now, I get it. I’ve got kids, and this is pretty suggestive stuff. I’m not sure I want to explain what’s going in that picture just yet. So, I understand why some people might have complained.
That being said, however, how is it that Akoo lands in hot water over that advertisement, but the Calvin Klein billboard below didn’t raise any eyebrows.

At the very least, here’s hoping that the controversy brings some attention to label as they’ve been putting out some killer clothes of late.
And, oh yeah, for the record…that billboard was hot as hell.
Adidas x Star Wars
One of my favorite lines was the Star Wars themed collection Marc Ecko produced a few years back. Their Boba Fett hoodie is still one of my prized possessions.
This year, however, it looks like I’ll be chasing after some Star Wars kicks to match. Adidas is rolling out a collection that will be inspired by the classic sci-fi film.

The shoes will come in three waves: the Characters Pack, the Vehicles Pack and the Direct Pack. You can find images of the other sneakers that will be available on the official Adidas website.

Kimora Lee Simmons is a Doll … Literally!
Well, virtually, at least.
Gorgeous Baby Phat founder Kimora Lee Simmons has brought her unique sense of fashion to the online world of Stardoll.com.
The Stardoll website allows girls aged 9-17 to play dress-up, clothing their favorite celebrities in designer brands such as DKNY, Miss Sixty, Philosophy and now, Baby Phat. In addition, users will be able to view videos of Baby Phat runaway shows and sneak peaks of Simmons’ reality show, LIFE IN THE FAB LANE.
Iconix Continues Takeover with Ecko Purchase
After a disasterous 2008 left his company buried beneath a mountain of debt, Marc Ecko’s been forced to sell a controlling interest in his Ecko clothing company to a familiar player in the game … Iconix.
Iconix, who purchased Rocawear in 2007 and a 50% stake in Ed Hardy earlier this year, will reportedly hold a stake in Ecko’s entire portfolio of brands when the deal go through (Ecko Unlimited, Cut & Sew, Avirex, Zoo York and several others.)
One has to wonder what the company will look like once the deal goes through. Unlike the Rocawear and Ed Hardy deals, Ecko is being sold out of neccessity, not a desire to expand the business and brand. Because Iconix is stepping in to save Ecko from a potential bankruptcy it remains to be seen if Ecko will be able to negotiate a position within the newly structured company.
Eve Shuts Fetish Down
After a number of stops and re-starts it looks like ex Ruff Ryders rapper Eve is closing her Fetish clothing line down for good.
Several years ago issues with a manufacturer forced Eve to close the line, but she launched again in late 2008 with a more upscale line that she hoped would cater to a more mature audience.
Of course, 2008 also brought a nationwide recession which made it difficult to regain footing in a crowded space that has become dominated by brands like Baby Phat and Beyonce’s House of Dereon.
Fetish items have been heavily discounted and are going fast. Pick yours up today.
